![]() Each year during the first full weekend of August this sleepy mountain hamlet is transformed into the harmonica capital of the western world. Entering its 20th year in 2009 (August 7-9), the Yellow Pine Harmonica Contest (honoring prospecting pioneers) has grown into one of the world's largest (and most fun!) harmonica events.
For nineteen years, our contest and festival has provided musical
enjoyment to thousands of people in our beautiful, rustic village
of Yellow Pine situated in the Idaho backcountry. The Harmonica
Fest is a family-oriented event with something for everyone.
We are doing our best to keep overhead costs low while maintaining
the high level of entertainment for musicians and audience alike.
There will be food and craft vendors, raffles, drawings, auctions,
harmonica lessons, and toe-tapping music! |

The Yellow Pine Harmonica Contest &
Festival is proud to announce that the exciting changes made to our 2008
Harmonica Contest went over exceptionally well. We now bring the contest
outdoors to the Main Stage for everyone to enjoy, and our revised contest
categories, judging criteria, and additional prize money did indeed entice
outstanding and talented players from all over!
In the new plan, Youth and Adult Divisions are judged by contestants in the Open Grand Champion Division (who either volunteer or are chosen by lot drawing). The more seasoned entrants of the Open Grand Champion Division (many of them former Contest winners) vote on each other – one vote but not for themselves. What better compliment can one receive than to be judged best by your talented peers? (and the Open entrants in 2008 were very enthusiastic about this scheme). So look forward to this again in 2009... The contest begins at 11:00am on Saturday with the Youth and Adult Divisions. The Open Grand Champion Division starts at 1:00pm Saturday. Winners will be announced and trophies and prize monies awarded at 5:00pm Saturday. (For more information - on the Harmonica Contest and the popular "Crowd Pleaser" contest - see the "Contest" page to the left. See also the "Events" page - which has yet to be updated for 2009, but much will be the same, and this gives you the idea...) So come, step back in time, camp in the
beautiful Idaho mountains, swim at Devil's Bathtub, fish Johnson Creek and
the East Fork of the South Fork of the Salmon River... Best of all,
relax and listen to some great music, enjoy great food, interesting
vendors, and meet great friends both new and old at the gateway to Idaho's
wilderness. Contacts:
