![]() Each year during the first full weekend of August this sleepy mountain hamlet is transformed into the harmonica capital of the western world. Entering its 19th year in 2008 (August 1-3), the Yellow Pine Harmonica Contest (honoring prospecting pioneers) has grown into one of the world's largest (and most fun!) harmonica events.
For eighteen years, our contest and festival has provided musical
enjoyment to thousands of people in our beautiful, rustic small
town of Yellow Pine situated in the Idaho backcountry. This event
is a major revenue source for our community. Events such as ours
are struggling to keep overhead costs low while maintaining the
high level of entertainment for musicians and audience alike. With
this in mind, we are trying something new with the Harmonica
Contest at this year’s festival. There will be food and craft
vendors, raffles, and toe-tapping music! Step back in time and
camp in the beautiful Idaho Mountains... |

The Yellow Pine Harmonica Contest & Festival is proud to announce exciting changes to our 2008 Harmonica Contest. We are bringing the contest outdoors to the Main Stage for everyone to enjoy, revising contest categories and judging criteria and adding prize money that is sure to entice outstanding and talented players from all over!
Perhaps the biggest change will be in the area of judging. In the past, we have been fortunate to have three major icons of the Harmonica world to perform judging duties. This year we are trying a new, innovative approach that will be put more money in the pockets of contestants. Here’s the new plan: Youth and Adult Divisions will be judged by contestants in the Open Grand Champion Division either by volunteering or by lot drawing. The talented entrants of the Open Grand Champion Division will vote on each other – one vote but not for themselves. What better compliment can one receive than to be judged best by your talented peers? The contest will begin at 11:00am on Saturday with the Youth and Adult Divisions. The Open Grand Champion Division will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. Winners will be announced and trophies and prize monies awarded at 5:00 p.m. Saturday. Contacts:
